We were out snorkling and I had shown Jace the translucent, big Jellyfish I had seen while swimming earlier and how graceful they drift along. We then took our time and snorkled around the reef for quite a while. Jace was getting a bit cold (the rail that he is) and we were swimming to shore when all of a sudden he let out a scream at the top of his lungs. He was splashing, shrilling and making quite a ruckus. I asked to tell me what happened and he said something had bit him and it was stinging. I stuck my face back in the water and could see nothing but a tiny school of fry. I thought that wouldn't do it, it has to be a Jellyfish. I kept looking around and there it was, nearly impossible to see. The translucent, tiny jellyfish about 4 inches across, was just balloning along minding its own business--looking for its breakfast. Well I got Jace out ot the water, an interesting feat, and ran with him back to the towel where we had our walkie-talkie. I emergently paged Angie and told here to bring down the isopropyl alcohol. ( Rubbing alcohol will wash away the stinging cells from the skin without rupturing the poison) We then doused him with the alcohol washed it off with water and calmed him down. The pictures shows where he got the brunt of the sting just behind the knee, a rather sensitive area. Today, however, you can't even tell that he was stung and he is back to his energetic self. Funny thing is, is that he came home and wanted to watch Nemo. Remember the part where Dory wanted to play with the squishies. It was a day that none of us will forget, especially Jace. This is truly an adventure.
